Partitioned Blocks
I am absolutely enthralled at the possibilities we have by using the line partitioning in EasyDraw! Here are some examples I'd like to share with you........

Sara Nephew's Three Sided Patchwork:

In the Fall of 1999 I bought Sara Nephew's Clear View / Super 60 Ruler.  I have had her book "Stars and Flowers/Three Sided Patchwork" for quite awhile and decided to see if I could use my  knowledge of line partitioning to draw one of her quilts in hopes of trying something new and different for me in my quiltmaking.

If you want to see more of Sara's quilts & books and even a ruler that will help you make one of these beauties, check out her website: Clearview Triangles: Quilts & Books by Sara Nephew

Sometimes I don't know what possesses me.  First, I had to figure out how to draw a near perfect hexagon within a block.  What I did first was to make a one block quilt in the Baby Block setting without any borders. I took a snapshot, saved it as a bitmap and then I imported it and traced just the hexagon outine as a block. I had to experiment with the grid and discovered that a 36 x 36 grid worked very well!!  Hey.....I don't claim to be a math genius, I just know when it looks right!  Here are the results..... I exported the quilts without "lines", because they looked so much better. You can look at the block picture to see how it was drawn. Applause, please............ :-)

Block size: 10.39" x 12"

Yes, you can actually make the drawing board that size!  When you set the block size in the quilt layout it will revert to the nearest 1/4", but it doesn't affect the overall look of the quilt. Also, Sara's blocks are hexagonal and the sashings and settings are very different than I can create in EQ4. The sashings in my EQ4 drawing are 3" horizontal and 1.5" vertical. I plan to rotary cut using the Super 60 ruler anyway!  My objective is to play with colors and to create my own three sided patchwork block.  Now the quilts........

I've since discovered another way to draw 60º blocks check it out PatchDraw --> CLICK HERE
