GOLDEN RECTANGLE QUILTS IN EQ5 Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, May 2004 issue (p.49) offered several quilt layouts based on the Golden Rectangle. We can create these as a Custom Set layout in EQ5 so that we can pop blocks in easily (similar to the quilts in EQ5's Layout Library). This is one of the layouts that was discussed on the Info-EQ mailing list. NOTE: Each square is a single independent block in placed on the quilt layout in Custom Set. This is what makes it possible to pop different blocks into the squares to see what happens.
How to create a Custom Layout in EQ5 for the Golden Rectangle Quilt: 1. Color and save a blank EasyDraw block. It will ask you if you want to save a blank block, say yes. 2. Use a Custom Set layout. Make the center rectangle, 32.00" x 26.00". In File menu> Preferences> Layout Option tab, make sure you have grid options checked down at the bottom and set the spacing to 1/4". It really helps when placing the blocks. 3. Place your blank block on the quilt. Copy and paste this block five times so you have a total of six blocks. Using the Adjust tool, change the the blocks to square sizes via the Graph Pad using these Fibonacci series numbers for the sizes: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8. 4. Build one 13" Golden Rectangle in the upper left corner of the quilt using these six squares. 5. After I built the one Golden Rectangle out of the squares, use Copy and Paste to create the rest of the layout, rearranging the squares so that they are oriented like the illustration above. Notice that every "rectangle" is repeated once, so that makes it even easier. Extra Hints: Here's a couple of examples what the layout looks like filled with blocks...
